Wassail 2020

A jolly time was had by all that attended the very first Wassail at the Rural Life Living Museum on Saturday 18th January 2020.

Around sixty people attended to wake up and bless the apple trees in the Farnham Beekeeper's apiary and dress them with handmade pine cone bird feeders and lanterns.

The procession, led by fiddle playing Bridget Flett, then advanced to the newly planted Kingston Black cider apple tree by the prefab.  One of our volunteers, Trevor Pragnell had kindly carved a Green Man to be set in place on the day to mark the occasion.

Volunteers Maurice Hewins, Keith Mortimer and Pat  Quigley led the afternoon with singing of traditional wassailing songs and Maurice imparted his knowledge of the history of the wassail.

A very successful afternoon and we hope to continue celebrating the tradition each year and watch the new cider apple tree grow and provide a bountiful crop for harvest.
